FRV secures 2.3 GW battery storage in Germany as Enel ramps up solar and hydro for El Niño in Colombia

Spanish renewable developer FRV announced it has secured 2.3 GW of grid connection capacity for battery storage projects across Germany, aiming for Ready‑to‑Build status between 2026 and 2029. The projects, ranging from two‑hour to four‑hour discharge systems, are intended to boost renewable integration and grid flexibility in the country.

In Colombia, utility Enel is strengthening its solar portfolio and implementing water‑management, maintenance and infrastructure upgrades to mitigate the impacts of the upcoming El Niño season. The company, which provides roughly 20 % of Colombia’s hydropower, is operating six large‑scale solar parks that already supply more than 1 GW of clean electricity, while also enhancing the reliability of its thermal plant and distribution network.

Both moves illustrate ongoing investments in renewable energy and grid resilience in different regions, targeting higher renewable penetration and stable power supply amid climate‑related challenges.
