FS CEO Donnarumma to Resign after Meeting with Transport Minister Salvini

Italy’s state rail operator Ferrovie dello Stato (FS) announced that chief executive Stefano Donnarumma will step down following a meeting with Transport Minister Matteo Salvini. The minister praised FS for meeting its PNRR objectives, citing progress toward the €25 billion target, the handling of 1,300 daily construction sites, and a 7 % improvement in punctuality in June 2026 compared with the previous year. Salvini also highlighted the company’s return to profitability, reporting a €30 million profit in the latest financial statements, and thanked the more than 90 000 FS employees for their work.

Sources said Donnarumma will finalize pending dossiers before handing over the role to an internal successor, marking an early end to his mandate after achieving key strategic milestones.
