FS Group expands European rail network with new high-speed routes

FS Group is expanding its international rail network through new high-speed services connecting Italy, Germany, and Austria. In collaboration with Deutsche Bahn and ÖBB, Trenitalia plans to launch Frecciarossa services between Milan and Munich, and Rome and Munich, starting in the summer of 2027. Initially, there will be four daily services, with travel times of approximately six and a half hours from Milan and eight and a half hours from Rome. The service is expected to expand to ten daily connections by December 2028.

In a separate operational shift, Trenitalia is introducing a new booking model for frequent high-speed travelers starting in November. While the cost of high-speed rail subscriptions will decrease, passengers will be required to pay a fixed fee of 2 euros per seat reservation. For example, a monthly Rome-Naples subscription is expected to drop from 418 euros to 338 euros. This change aims to balance costs for commuters, with economic benefits for those traveling fewer than 40 times per month.
