Fès implements flood prevention study for Oued El Mehraz

The Sebou Hydraulic Basin Agency (ABHS) has initiated an 18-month technical study to protect the Fès metropolitan area from flash floods caused by the Oued El Mehraz river. The project aims to design a regulation structure and model flow attenuation upstream of the urban zone to prevent sudden water rises that threaten residential areas and road networks.

The investigation includes analyzing rainfall patterns, historical flow data, and conducting field surveys of flood marks to reconstruct past hydrological events. To ensure precision, teams are utilizing airborne laser remote sensing and high-resolution photography to create a digital terrain model with a 25-centimeter step, allowing for an accurate representation of the riverbed and surrounding slopes.
