FSAI recalls various products over salmonella concerns

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has issued an urgent recall for numerous products due to potential salmonella contamination. The recall affects over 40 Baxter & Greene products sold at Dunnes Stores, including loose salad bar items, pre-packed wraps, sandwiches, baguettes, goat cheese balls, and gourmet sausage rolls.

Additionally, SuperValu and Gem sesame seed products are included in the recall. Specific items involve SuperValu 200g Seed Mix (batch codes 163, 166, and 191) and various Gem, Sysco, and Sowans sesame seed batches. Retailers have been instructed to remove the affected batches from sale and display point-of-sale notices.

Consumers are advised not to consume the implicated products. Salmonella symptoms typically appear within 12 to 36 hours and include diarrhoea, fever, headache, and abdominal cramps. While the illness usually lasts four to seven days, severe cases, particularly in infants, the elderly, or those with impaired immune systems, may require hospital admission.
