FSSAI suspends Wai Wai factory production and seizes infant food

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has launched major enforcement actions against multiple food manufacturers following inspections that revealed significant hygiene and labeling violations.

In Rajasthan, the regulator ordered CG Foods India, a subsidiary of Binod Chaudhary’s CG Corp Global, to immediately halt production of its ‘Veg Bhujia Namkeen’ snack line. Inspectors at the Roopangarh facility reportedly found workers collecting broken noodles from the factory floor to reprocess them into bhujia without undergoing heat treatment. Authorities seized approximately 32,000 kg of goods, including expired products and unlicenced ‘Wai-Wai MaMa’ and ‘Wai-Wai Mama Punte’ variants.

Simultaneously, in Bengaluru, FSSAI took strict action against British Lifesciences Private Limited regarding the production of infant food. The inspection uncovered misbranded and expired infant nutrition products. Following court directions, approximately 3.7 metric tonnes of expired infant food were ordered for destruction to prevent them from re-entering the food chain. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the company due to the potential health risks posed to infants and young children.
