FSSAI issues 150+ notices to major food brands over labelling violations
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued over 150 notices to major food and beverage companies regarding misleading advertisements, false claims, and labelling violations. Targeted brands include Nestle India, PepsiCo, Coca-Cola India, Red Bull India, Monster Energy India, and Mondelez India. The regulator has also increased scrutiny on energy drinks and alcoholic beverages.
Enforcement actions have extended to e-commerce platforms and restaurant chains. FSSAI issued 12 notices to Amazon and Flipkart, and cancelled the licence of one Amazon warehouse. Additionally, more than 30 notices were sent to food service establishments such as KFC, McDonald’s, Pizza Hut, Domino’s, and Costa Coffee, with five Domino’s licences being suspended.
In separate regional enforcement drives, authorities in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh have conducted crackdowns on food adulteration ahead of the festive season. In Rajasthan, officials destroyed 300 kg of suspected adulterated paneer and sealed an illegal vegetable fat manufacturing unit. In Uttar Pradesh, the Food Safety and Drug Administration seized adulterants and destroyed large quantities of contaminated khoya during inspections across multiple districts.
