FSSAI Issues Notice to Nestlé India Over Insect Findings in Maggi Noodles
India’s food safety regulator, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), has served a notice to Nestlé India after consumer complaints alleged that insects or larvae were found in a packet of its Maggi noodles. The regulator has asked Nestlé to submit an Action Taken Report detailing batch‑level checks, supplier information, product withdrawals and preventive measures. The notice is part of a fact‑finding process and does not yet establish wrongdoing.
The same regulatory sweep also targeted a KFC outlet in Andhra Pradesh and the e‑commerce platform Flipkart over separate hygiene complaints. Following the Maggi notice, Nestlé India’s shares fell about 3% on June 12, 2026, reflecting investor concern because Maggi accounts for roughly 30% of the company’s revenue. Analysts note that the market reaction is driven by sentiment rather than confirmed operational damage. The company must now respond to the regulator’s queries, while the episode revives memories of the 2015 Maggi controversy that led to a temporary ban.
No ban has been announced, and the outcome will depend on the FSSAI’s investigation and Nestlé’s compliance response.
