FSSAI issues notices to Dr. Reddy’s, Nestlé, and e-commerce platforms
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued notices to several major companies and e-commerce platforms regarding allegedly misleading health and nutritional claims. The entities named include Dr. Reddy’s, Nestlé Health Science, Tirupati Wellness, Amazon, Flipkart, and Netmeds.
The regulator flagged claims related to high protein content, muscle strength, the maintenance of lean muscle mass, immunity support, and energy metabolism. FSSAI stated that these claims were presented on product packaging in a way that could potentially mislead consumers about the actual health benefits of the products.
In addition to advertising concerns, the regulator noted instances involving the sale of unsafe or expired food products from certain entities. The companies have been asked to provide explanations as to why regulatory action should not be initiated against them. This move is part of increased scrutiny by FSSAI to ensure that nutritional labels and promotional materials comply with food safety and labeling regulations.
