FSU union warns of resource shortages in Angers schools
The Fédération syndicale unitaire (FSU) union is raising alarms regarding a lack of resources for the new school year in Angers, France. Union representatives report a sense of exhaustion and concern among national education professionals due to budgetary decisions that they claim penalize public services.
Christophe Hélou, a departmental secretary for the FSU, stated that the government appears to be using education as a “variable of adjustment” and is choosing to reduce the number of teachers despite demographic shifts. The union argues that instead of using declining student numbers to reduce class sizes, the government is cutting human resources.
This reduction in staff is reportedly impacting support systems for vulnerable students, specifically regarding assistants for students with disabilities (AESH), leaving many without sufficient accompaniment.
