FTC tapped by White House to lead AI law enforcement
The Trump administration has designated the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to lead consumer protection and law enforcement efforts regarding artificial intelligence. During a meeting of the White House AI task force, it was agreed that FTC Chairman Andrew Ferguson will lead the “law enforcement and consumer protection coordination committee.”
This committee will include the FTC and the Department of Justice. The move comes as the agency has already conducted investigations into the AI industry. Pro-AI groups have expressed support for the decision, suggesting that the administration can maintain American dominance in the super intelligence race while simultaneously utilizing existing federal tools to hold companies accountable for wrongdoing.
