Fête de la Musique celebrations in Speyer and Essen, Germany
On June 21, Germany joins the worldwide Fête de la Musique with free outdoor concerts in several cities. In Speyer, the event takes place at the historic St Bernhard church. Organized by the Bibliothèque française Speyer and the Freundeskreis Speyer‑Chartres, the program features the library choir, the Marching Bones from the local music school, the Duo Musette ensemble, and performances by school choirs and youth musicians from local gymnasiums. Admission is free, donations are welcomed, and French food specialties are offered.
In Essen, the Deutsch‑Französisches Kulturzentrum coordinates concerts at ten venues around the museum quarter and city centre from 14:00 to 22:00. The programme spans techno, pop, classical and jazz, with stages at Galerie Obrist, the Erlöserkirche, Museum Folkwang, the Bar "Banditen wie wir" and Club "Goethebunker", among others. Open‑air dancing, DJ sets and the JaZZZ Festival are also part of the festivities, aiming to bring together residents from different districts and promote cultural exchange.
