Fátima hotel fire kills Spanish tourist and forces evacuations

A fire at the Hotel Avenida de Fátima in Portugal resulted in the death of a 63-year-old Spanish tourist during the early hours of Monday. The victim was part of a group of Spanish tourists staying at the establishment.

The blaze originated in a first-floor room. While the fire was largely confined to that specific compartment, smoke spread through the building, prompting emergency services to evacuate 53 guests and employees to a safe area. Five individuals required rescue due to the flames and smoke.

Emergency response teams, including firefighters from Fátima and Ourém, INEM, the GNR, and the Polícia Judiciária, arrived following an alert at 00:39. Although medical teams performed resuscitation efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The fire was extinguished by approximately 01:06. The Polícia Judiciária is currently investigating the cause of the incident.
