FTSE 100 and S&P 500 performance gap narrows amid market rotation

Global stock indices are currently navigating narrow trading ranges. The FTSE 100 is testing the floor of its rising trend channel near 10,660, with resistance identified at the 50-day moving average and the 10,800 level. A break above 10,810 could target 11,100, while a failure to hold support may lead toward the 200-day moving average near 10,440.

The DAX is similarly trading near its channel support of approximately 25,300. It faces resistance at its 50-day moving average near 25,800, with potential downside targets at 25,000 or the 200-day moving average near 24,700.

In a comparative analysis of market performance, the total returns of the FTSE 100 and the S&P 500 have become nearly identical over the last 12 months. The FTSE 100 delivered a total return of approximately 21%, closely matching the S&P 500’s 21.2%. This convergence is driven by a rotation into sectors heavily represented in the London market, such as banks, insurers, miners, and pharmaceuticals, which offsets the S&P 500’s technological concentration. However, risks remain, including potential AI valuation corrections in the US and interest rate pressures affecting both indices.
