Fu Shan Road Sports Ground: 16 students hospitalized after consuming suspicious drinks

During a secondary school sports meet at Fu Shan Road Sports Ground in Wong Tai Sin on September 22, 16 students aged 12 to 17 reported feeling unwell after consuming suspicious bottled drinks. The students experienced symptoms such as dizziness and abdominal pain, leading 15 of them to be transported to United Hospital by ambulance.

Witnesses reported that an individual outside the sports ground was distributing the bottled drinks for free, claiming it was for “charity.” Students later observed that the bottles had needle holes in various locations, including the caps and the bodies of the containers. Some reported that water sprayed out when the bottles were pressed.

The Hong Kong Police Force has launched an investigation, with the East Kowloon Regional Crime Unit handling the case. While some officials suggested the symptoms might be related to intense physical activity following running races, the police have seized relevant evidence. Maryknoll Convent School and the Education Bureau have expressed concern, noting that the distributor was an outsider and not affiliated with the school.
