Fubon Guardians sign Chen Po-kai to record-breaking contract

The Fubon Guardians have signed draft pick number one, Chen Po-kai, to a contract that breaks the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) record for a rookie signing bonus. Chen will receive a 6.5 million TWD signing bonus, with a total contract value reaching 8.5 million TWD when including 1 million TWD in training allowances and 1 million TWD in incentive bonuses.

This deal surpasses the previous record set in 2002 by Tsai Chung-nan. In addition to the record-breaking bonus, the Guardians plan to provide Chen with overseas training and specialized development programs to facilitate his transition to professional baseball. Chen is currently participating in training with the Chinese Taipei U18 team for the Asian U18 Baseball Championship.

Beyond Chen, the Guardians announced that nine rookies have completed their contract agreements. Other notable signings include second-round pick Yu Kuan-yu and third-round pick Chen Ting-hao. The club stated that all 2026 draft picks have reached a consensus on their contracts, signaling a successful recruitment period for the team.
