Fuel bowser operators threaten Sri Lanka distribution withdrawal

Fuel bowser operators in Sri Lanka have threatened to withdraw from fuel distribution starting this Friday if authorities do not resolve disputes regarding the pricing formula used for transport operations.

The Ceylon Petroleum Private Bowser Owners’ Association, alongside fuel station owners, met with Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) officials to seek a solution. The CPC Chairman has scheduled a final round of discussions for Friday, with the expectation that changes to the pricing mechanism could be implemented following the meeting.

Operators report that rising fuel prices, spare-part costs, and the general cost of living have increased their operating expenses by an estimated 40% to 50%. While a previous agreement aimed to implement a revised mechanism by January 2026, the association claims the matter remains unresolved despite multiple rounds of discussions throughout the year.
