Fuel depot fire near Sulaimaniyah injures 20 and destroys tankers
A massive fire broke out at a fuel storage depot in the Tanjaro area near Sulaimaniyah, in northern Iraq’s Kurdish region. The blaze, which began just before midnight, resulted in several explosions as flames spread through the facility.
At least 20 people sustained injuries, though local officials described the injuries as minor. Reports indicate that 34 petrol tankers and four gas-oil tankers were destroyed, with the fire consuming more than 3 million litres of fuel.
Emergency crews and civil defense teams from Sulaimaniyah brought the fire under control. While the cause of the incident remains unclear, local market spokespeople stated they do not expect the destruction to impact regional petrol prices.
