Fuel discoveries in Galicia reinforce narco-submarine hypothesis

Authorities in Galicia are investigating whether recent fuel discoveries in the Vigo estuary and near Carnota are linked to drug trafficking via semi-submersible vessels, known as narco-submarines.

Salvamento Marítimo recovered approximately 1,000 liters of fuel from the Vigo estuary following a report from a fishing vessel. The recovery included 49 containers: 28 containing diesel and 21 containing gasoline. Investigators noted that the characteristics of the diesel found are nearly identical to fuel discovered days earlier in Esposende, Portugal.

In Portugal, a recent operation involving a narco-speedboat and over 2,000 liters of fuel led to several arrests. Spanish authorities, including the Civil Guard, are now analyzing whether the spilled fuel in the Pontevedra coast and the containers found at Lariño beach are connected to the same maritime drug trafficking routes.
