Fuel markets face volatility as diesel prices rise in Paraguay and distributors warn in Ecuador
In Paraguay, the private fuel company Puma has increased diesel prices due to rising international oil costs and geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. Common Type III diesel rose by G. 300, while premium ION Diesel Type I increased by G. 600. This marks the fifth price hike by private firms this year. Meanwhile, the state-owned company Petropar has maintained its current fuel prices.
In Ecuador, the Chamber of Distributors of Petroleum Derivatives (Camddepe) has warned that the commercialization of diesel is in an “unsustainable” state. Camddepe President Ivo Rosero stated that profit margins have not been updated in 23 years, leading to financial instability for distributors, service stations, and transporters. The sector is facing liquidity issues and the closure of credit lines for heavy transport due to rising costs. Camddepe is proposing a gradual increase in profit margins and a removal of price distortions between diesel and gasoline.
