Fuel price adjustments in Paraguay and Pemex losses in Mexico

Fuel companies in Paraguay are beginning to adjust prices. Private sector firms Puma and Compasa have announced new pricing structures. Puma’s adjustments include diesel at G. 8,990 and various gasoline grades ranging from G. 7,290 to G. 9,140. Compasa will implement its new suggested price structure starting September 14, with diesel prices set at G. 11,100 and G. 9,150 depending on the type, and gasoline prices between G. 7,440 and G. 9,290.

In Mexico, an analysis by PETROIntelligence indicates that Pemex is losing approximately 1,756.9 million pesos per month due to government strategies aimed at containing fuel prices. Under a voluntary pact to keep regular gasoline below 24 pesos per liter and diesel below 27 pesos per liter, Pemex has homogenized wholesale prices across the country. This policy ignores regional logistical costs, meaning the expense of transporting fuel to remote areas is not reflected in the wholesale price, causing Pemex to absorb these costs amid rising international energy references.
