Fuel price increases drive transport fare hikes in Sierra Leone and daily price shifts in Pakistan

Sierra Leone's Ministry of Transport and Aviation has announced a 12.5% increase in provincial and cross-border transport fares following a rise in fuel prices to NLe45.00 per litre. The new tariff affects the Sierra Leone Road Transport Corporation (SLRTC), private operators, and commercial services. Key route adjustments include Freetown to Kailahun rising to NLe394.90 and Freetown to Kono to NLe300.20. Other increases affect routes to Kenema, Bo, Makeni, and several other regional centers.

In Pakistan, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has transitioned to daily adjustments for petrol and diesel prices to mitigate market volatility caused by global energy disruptions. Effective July 17, 2026, ex-depot prices are revised every 24 hours, excluding weekends and holidays. Recent hikes include Motor Spirit (petrol) increasing by Rs. 5.58 and High Speed Diesel increasing by Rs. 4.18. These measures follow a global fuel crisis linked to maritime blockades and military conflicts affecting oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz.
