Bosnia and Herzegovina faces energy and fuel price instability
Bosnia and Herzegovina is facing significant energy and fuel price pressures. Elektroprivreda Bosne i Hercegovine (EPBiH) reported a loss of 52.38 million KM in 2025, driven by a shortage of coal—with mines delivering 1.01 million tons less than contracted—and a growing need to purchase electricity on the market. Experts suggest that electricity price increases for households could occur as early as late 2025 or early 2026.
In Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik has announced that households using electricity for heating may soon be required to pay market prices to address energy inefficiency. Meanwhile, the regulatory body FERK has set a new reference price for electricity from renewable sources at 13.2125 fen per kWh, effective January 2027.
Fuel prices also show significant regional variation. In the Federation of BiH, the average price for diesel is approximately 3.74 KM per liter, while Super 95 gasoline averages 3.42 KM. Significant price gaps exist between different gas stations, with diesel prices ranging from 3.52 KM in Konjic to 3.95 KM in Livno.
