Italy fuel prices rise as diesel exceeds 3 euros per liter in some regions

Fuel prices in Italy are experiencing significant increases, with diesel and gasoline costs rising across the national network. According to the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy, average self-service prices have reached 2.155 €/l for gasoline and 2.340 €/l for diesel. In certain regions, the situation is even more acute; the consumer association Codacons reports that full-service diesel has exceeded 3.1 euros per liter in areas such as Crotone and parts of Cuneo.

In the Emilia-Romagna region, specifically in the province of Modena, 21% of distributors have reported self-service diesel prices at or above 2.4 euros per liter, a figure significantly higher than the regional average. Economic associations are warning of the heavy burden on various sectors. Assoesercenti Nazionale estimates that rising diesel costs could cost commercial activities up to 3,000 euros annually and heavy vehicles nearly 20,000 euros. Additionally, Coldiretti Puglia notes that energy costs have increased by 43% over five years, adding 95 million euros to the expenses of families in Puglia.

These price hikes are expected to continue as government excise duty discounts are scheduled to be reduced progressively. While some regional measures, such as potential tax exemptions for low-power vehicles in Emilia-Romagna, may offer some relief, the overall trend points toward increased costs for consumers and businesses alike.
