Fuel prices in Turkey rise following diesel tax reduction

Fuel prices in Turkey have seen significant volatility due to fluctuations in Brent crude oil prices and exchange rates. Following a brief period of relief caused by a Special Consumption Tax (ÖTV) reduction on diesel, which had previously lowered prices by approximately 9 TL, new price hikes have been implemented.

As of August 14, 2026, the price of gasoline increased by 1.61 TL per liter, while diesel saw a substantial increase of 8.89 TL per liter. This latest hike effectively offsets the previous tax reduction. In major cities, gasoline prices have climbed to levels between 71 and 72 TL per liter. The rapid increase in diesel prices represents one of the largest hikes in recent periods.
