Fuel prices rise across Central Europe as diesel costs surge

Fuel prices are rising across Central Europe, with significant increases noted in diesel and gasoline. In Slovenia, the maximum regulated price for diesel outside motorways reached 1.903 euros per liter.

In Italy, prices on motorways have surged significantly. According to the consumer organization Codacons, diesel prices on certain motorways have exceeded 2.50 euros per liter, with premium diesel reaching as high as 3.159 euros per liter on the stretch between Modena and the Brenner Pass. Even at self-service stations in Italy, average diesel prices have reached approximately 2.136 euros per liter.

In Slovakia, recent data from the Statistical Office shows that fuel costs have hit multi-year highs. Average diesel prices rose to 1.862 euros per liter, while premium diesel surpassed the 2.00 euro mark, reaching 2.061 euros per liter. This represents a 31.2 percent year-on-year increase for standard diesel. While Slovakian prices remain lower than the European Union average, they contrast with Poland, where prices have dropped following a government decision to reduce VAT on fuel from 23 percent to 8 percent.
