Fuel prices hit records in Slovenia and Slovakia

Fuel prices in Slovenia and Slovakia are experiencing significant shifts. In Slovenia, the regulated price for 95-octane gasoline has reached a new record of 1.760 euros per liter, slightly surpassing the previous high set in mid-2022. Conversely, diesel and heating oil prices have decreased, with diesel dropping by 8.3 cents to 1.929 euros per liter. The Slovenian government has extended exemptions for certain environmental and energy efficiency levies on these fuels until December 15.

In Slovakia, fuel costs are also rising. Diesel prices have reached a historic high of 1.950 euros per liter, marking the highest level in nearly 17 years of official tracking. 95-octane gasoline has also climbed to 1.853 euros per liter, its highest price since summer 2022. Analysts note that while prices are high, they remain below the European Union average. In Slovakia, retailers are reportedly hesitant to push diesel prices past the psychological threshold of 2.00 euros per liter despite rising wholesale costs driven by refining margins.
