Fuel station regulations and monitoring updates in Brazil
In Rio de Janeiro, the State Secretariat of Finance (Sefaz-RJ) has issued a final notice to approximately one thousand fuel stations to regularize their digital tax records (EFD ICMS/IPI). Establishments have 15 business days to correct pending information, specifically regarding fuel movement and sales volumes. Failure to comply by September 3 will result in inspections and potential fines, as the data is intended to combat tax evasion and unfair competition.
In João Pessoa, Mayor Leo Bezerra launched the Procon-JP Digital 2.0 platform. This tool allows consumers to monitor fuel prices in real time and check the regulatory status of local stations, including whether they have been fined or closed. The platform features an interactive map and allows citizens to report abusive pricing, aiming to increase transparency and consumer autonomy.
