Fuel tanker overturns on Hato Mayor–Sabana de la Mar highway

A fuel tanker overturned on Friday afternoon at kilometer 8 of the Hato Mayor–Sabana de la Mar highway, located past the municipal landfill. The accident caused fuel to spill onto the pavement, leading to a temporary suspension of traffic in both directions.

The driver emerged from the vehicle uninjured, and preliminary reports indicate no other injuries or fatalities. Emergency response units from the National Emergency and Security Attention System (9-1-1) and fire departments from Hato Mayor, Sabana de la Mar, El Valle, and El Seibo arrived at the scene to manage the spill and mitigate fire risks.

Authorities, including agents from the Directorate General of Transit and Land Transport (Digesett) and the National Police, are managing traffic and site security. Operations to contain the spill and remove the vehicle are ongoing, and drivers have been advised to avoid the area until circulation is fully restored.
