Fuencarral marks 75 years since annexation to Madrid

The Fuencarral-El Pardo Municipal Board has launched a week of celebrations to mark the 75th anniversary of Fuencarral's integration into the city of Madrid. The annexation occurred on October 20, 1951, adding 54 square kilometers and over 16,000 inhabitants to the capital.

Commemorative events held at the Plaza de las Islas Azores included the presentation of 17 recognition plaques to various local institutions, neighborhood associations, schools, and sports clubs for their commitment to the community. Officials Borja Carabante and José Antonio Martínez Páramo also visited a monolith dedicated to the ‘fuencarraleras’, the women who historically traveled from the town to sell produce.
