Fuengirola installs camera system to stop illegal parking at bus stops
The Fuengirola City Council has deployed a video‑camera network linked to the local police to detect vehicles parked illegally at urban bus stops. The system records licence plates and sends real‑time alerts to officers, who can then issue fines for unauthorized stopping or parking. Councilor for Mobility Isabel González said the measure aims to keep bus lanes clear for safe boarding and alighting, especially for elderly and mobility‑impaired passengers, and to reduce traffic congestion caused by cars blocking the stops.
During 2025, 160 penalties of €200 each were recorded for such violations. González stressed that fines are a last‑resort deterrent, introduced after growing complaints from bus users and drivers about the obstruction of bus stop areas.
