Fuengirola Provides 24 Affordable Rental Flats for Young Families

Mayor Ana Mula and regional housing minister Rocío Díaz handed over 24 new social‑housing units on Calle Begoña in Fuengirola's Carvajal district. From 1 August, the apartments will be offered under affordable rental agreements to young families under 35 who struggle to find market housing.

The €3.87 million project was co‑financed with EU funds, covering about 28.9 % (€1.1 million). Construction began in November 2024 and lasted 547 calendar days. Each two‑bedroom, two‑bathroom flat includes a balcony and the building provides 12 underground parking spaces on a 3,376.5 m² municipal plot. The town hall has already delivered 65 similar affordable rentals this term and is evaluating another 65‑unit project in Torreblanca with a €12 million budget.

Local opposition parties criticised the ceremony for lacking a national government representative, arguing it showed a lack of institutional loyalty.
