Fuerteventura celebrates festivities of Nuestra Señora de La Peña
Fuerteventura is celebrating the festivities in honor of Nuestra Señora de La Peña. The events in Vega de Río Palmas included a formal proclamation delivered by Antonio Ravelo, featuring musical performances, dance, and poetry to highlight local traditions.
A major religious ceremony was held on Saturday, September 19, where the image of the island's patron saint was carried in procession to the plaza of Nuestra Señora de La Peña. The solemn Eucharist was presided over by Bishop José Mazuelos of the Diocese of the Canary Islands and attended by various local and regional authorities, including the President of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, Lola García.
Following the religious acts, community celebrations included a traditional puchero tasting and musical performances by the group Tabajoste. The program also features events for senior citizens and traditional games organized by the Insular Federation of Bola Canaria and Petanca.
