Fuerteventura hosts international climate and biodiversity summit

The Fuerteventura Biosphere Reserve is hosting the international meeting ‘Biosphere in Action, Climate and Biological Corridors’ on October 13 and 14. Held at the Palacio de Formación y Congresos de Fuerteventura, the event brings together specialists and representatives from various biosphere reserves to address environmental challenges specific to island territories.

Participating delegations include representatives from the El Vizcaíno Biosphere Reserve in Mexico, as well as the reserves of Príncipe, El Hierro, and La Palma. The discussions focus on climate change, ecosystem conservation, and the establishment of biological corridors to facilitate species mobility. Specific regional priorities include the protection of the Canary Island date palm and the expansion of marine protected areas.

The initiative involves entities linked to the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere (MaB) program and the World Network of Biological Corridors. In addition to experts, students are participating to foster environmental awareness and engagement among younger generations.
