Fuerteventura politicians oppose demolition of historic Cueva la Negra house

The political coalition Asamblea Majorera–Coalición Canaria Fuerteventura has criticized the Spanish Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, along with the Directorate General for Coasts, for proceeding with the demolition of a house in Cueva la Negra, located in the municipality of Pájara.

The property is described as one of the last examples of a coastal settlement on the Jandía Peninsula and is noted for its potential historical, ethnographic, and archaeological value. While the Cabildo of Fuerteventura previously implemented precautionary measures to suspend the demolition to allow for the documentation of the site's cultural significance, the central government has moved forward with the process.

Local representatives argue that the demolition ignores the heritage value of the building, which has been preserved by the owner's family for over 150 years, and could result in an irreparable loss of local identity and history.
