Fuerza del Pueblo denounces sediment extraction discrepancies at Hatillo Dam

The Fuerza del Pueblo (FP) party's Environmental Secretariat has reported significant technical, legal, and economic inconsistencies regarding a sediment extraction project at the Hatillo Dam on the Yuna River.

Paino Abreu Collado, head of the FP environmental secretariat, stated that while the Ministry of Environment granted EGEHID a permit for 100,000 cubic meters of sediment extraction over six months, three contracts signed between December 2025 and January 2026 specify a total of 1,330,694 cubic meters. This volume is more than 13 times the authorized amount.

The party warned that the commercial value of the extracted gravel and sand could generate approximately RD$1,000 million in profit after costs. Abreu called for the suspension of operations until these discrepancies are clarified and demanded more transparent, competitive mechanisms to ensure the state recovers a fair portion of these resources and funds the restoration of watersheds.
