Fuerza Popular legislators face scrutiny over campaign donor hiring and mining contributions
Investigations into the Fuerza Popular party in Peru have revealed potential conflicts of interest regarding campaign financing and legislative staffing. Reports indicate that several senators, including Alejandro Aguinaga and Marco Miyashiro, have hired major campaign donors to serve as advisors, assistants, and technicians within their congressional offices.
Additionally, Senator Karla Schaefer has faced scrutiny over a S/20,000 donation received in January 2026 from Francisco Manuel Pedraza Ferreyros. Pedraza serves as a representative for the mining company The Mine Key S.A.C., which holds active mining claims in the Arequipa region. While Schaefer has publicly denied receiving funds from mining enterprises, official electoral financing records from ONPE confirm the transaction.
