Fuerza Suma urges Argentine Senate to pass gambling addiction law
The non-partisan group Fuerza Suma has called upon the Argentine Senate to prioritize and pass a bill aimed at combating gambling addiction and regulating online betting. The legislation, which received partial approval from the Chamber of Deputies two years ago, is currently stalled in the upper house and faces the imminent risk of losing its parliamentary status.
Led by businessman Osvaldo Cornide and actress Katja Alemann, the group is advocating for the law to be enacted before the end of the year. Fuerza Suma emphasized that the expansion of digital gambling disproportionately affects children, adolescents, and young people, noting that the consequences extend beyond individual players to impact family economies, social bonds, and educational communities.
In alignment with warnings from the Church's Social Pastoral, the group described the situation as a human and social crisis requiring an urgent state response through effective prevention, protection, and regulation of advertising and platform access.
