Fugitive arrested at Fiumicino Airport after years on the run

A 42-year-old man from Massarosa, Italy, has been arrested at Fiumicino Airport after years of evading a seven-year prison sentence for aggravated sexual violence and robbery. The fugitive had been living in Bali, Indonesia, under a false identity.

Authorities tracked the man by analyzing financial transactions made with his father’s Postepay card, which showed monthly deposits and withdrawals in Indonesia. The conviction stems from a 2021 incident in which the man allegedly assaulted a sex worker with a knife and stole 500 euros. The sentence had been made final by the Court of Cassation in June 2023, but the man fled before the arrest order could be executed.
