Fujian man arrested for stealing temple donations

A 38-year-old man surnamed Qin has been arrested in Huian County, Quanzhou, Fujian province, after stealing approximately 2,000 yuan in merit box donations from a temple.

CCTV footage revealed the suspect using specialized tools to fish banknotes out of the donation box. In a peculiar move, the man left a single 1-yuan note on the altar before fleeing, later claiming he did so to “pray for the gods to forgive his actions.”

Local police successfully recovered the full amount and have placed the suspect under administrative detention for 12 days.
