Fujifilm Business Innovation expands sensing technology and Microsoft software integration

Fujifilm Business Innovation (Fujifilm BI) has introduced new applications for its proprietary spatial sensing technology, which utilizes a custom-developed laser light source called ‘Smart Addressable VCSEL’. This technology is already integrated into the Apeos C7072 series multifunction printers, using a ‘Smart WelcomEyes’ sensor to detect user proximity for power-saving modes. At CEATEC 2026, the company demonstrated further uses, including collision avoidance sensors for warehouses and non-contact air user interfaces for hygienic environments like medical or food production facilities.

In a separate strategic move, Fujifilm BI is expanding its collaboration with Microsoft to enhance the utility of its DocuWorks document handling software. The partnership aims to integrate DocuWorks with Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Copilot. Planned features include the ability to preview DocuWorks files within OneDrive, SharePoint, and Microsoft Teams, as well as the ability to upload these files to Microsoft Copilot for AI-driven summarization. The company targets a release for these integration features by the end of March 2027.
