Fujitsu and partners test AI to prevent construction delays

Fujitsu, Tokyu Construction, and Kitano Construction have launched a demonstration experiment for an AI-driven construction process management support system. The trial will take place at Fujitsu Technology Park in Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture, from August 3 to December 25.

The AI system is designed to reduce risks associated with construction delays, task omissions, and errors in material procurement or applications. By analyzing diverse data sources—including drawings, schedules, daily reports, and safety instructions—the AI cross-references site data with local laws, ordinances, and regulations. This allows the system to identify potential risks in scheduling, material orders, heavy machinery arrangements, and inspections, providing the reasoning behind its findings.

Additionally, the AI supports rapid decision-making for site managers by analyzing discrepancies between schedules and daily reports. The demonstration aims to evaluate the AI's accuracy in detecting delays, its effectiveness in reducing workload, and its ability to handle varying data formats used by different contractors. The goal is to address labor shortages and the industry's reliance on experienced personnel by improving productivity and knowledge transfer in increasingly complex construction environments.
