Fujitsu announces FUJITSU-MONAKA CPU to boost AI efficiency

Fujitsu has announced the development of its next-generation domestic CPU, ‘FUJITSU-MONAKA’, and the accompanying ‘Fujitsu MONAKA Server’. Designed to address the high power demands of artificial intelligence, the processor utilizes a 3D stacked structure combining 2nm process technology for cores with 5nm for cache and I/O.

According to the company, the chip features 144 Arm cores and a maximum frequency of 3.8GHz. It is engineered to deliver AI inference throughput approximately twice that of competing CPUs, which could potentially halve the required number of servers and reduce overall power consumption. The hardware also includes specialized instructions for matrix operations and supports confidential computing to protect data in multi-tenant environments.

The Fujitsu MONAKA Server will be available in various configurations, including 1U and 2U models, with global sales of the standalone processor beginning in November 2026. The company plans to roll out servers in Japan and Europe starting in the second half of fiscal year 2026, targeting sectors such as finance, telecommunications, and manufacturing. The project emphasizes supply chain transparency and sovereignty through domestic design and manufacturing in Japan.
