Fujitsu to launch MONAKA CPU for sovereign AI infrastructure

Fujitsu Ltd has announced the global launch of its next-generation FUJITSU-MONAKA processor, scheduled for November 2026. Developed in Japan as part of a NEDO program to reduce data center energy consumption, the CPU is designed to support sovereign AI infrastructure through domestic manufacturing and enhanced supply-chain transparency.

The processor utilizes a 3D-stacked chiplet architecture, combining 2nm CPU cores with 5nm cache and I/O sections. It features 144 cores based on the Arm-v9 architecture, reaching a maximum frequency of 3.8GHz and supporting memory transfer speeds of 8,800MT/s. To optimize AI workloads, the chip includes dedicated instructions for matrix operations, allowing it to deliver twice the AI inference throughput of other CPUs while improving power efficiency.

Fujitsu will offer the MONAKA CPU as a standalone product for cloud and data center operators, as well as a complete MONAKA Server platform. The server is intended for use in air-cooled data centers and will initially target markets in Japan and Europe, with broader global availability including the US and Asia-Pacific planned for the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2026.
