Japan opens new specialty cafés in Fukushima and Tokyo
Fujiya’s new café brand Peko‑chan Milky Time opened its third location at the Fukushima Station west‑exit Power City Pivot on July 3, 2026. The shop offers a range of “Milky”‑themed drinks and sweets, including milky soft‑serve, donuts, pies, muffins, cakes and a collaboration “milky shake” with local dairy brand Kyakō. An opening‑day greeting event featured the mascot Peko‑chan and the regional character Akabee, plus limited‑edition happy bags.
Finland’s historic bakery Ekberg opened its first permanent shop in Japan inside the Isetan Shinjuku department store on July 15, 2026. The outlet will sell authentic Finnish baked goods such as the cinnamon roll Kolvapuusti and butter‑topped Voisilmapulla, mirroring the family‑run bakery’s offerings from its 1852 Helsinki origin.
Both openings mark the introduction of new specialty café concepts to Japanese consumers, expanding regional brand presence in the country’s retail food sector.
