Fukui Prefecture hosts textile and community photography exhibitions

In Fukui Prefecture, two distinct cultural exhibitions are taking place. Dyeing artist Yoke Tamamura is holding an exhibition titled ‘Water — Swaying Fragrance of Color’ at the Yoko-kan Garden. The exhibition features approximately 50 unique, hand-painted items, including kimonos, obis, and tapestries, all created through a meticulous process at her studio, Atelier Yu. This event marks a significant personal milestone for Tamamura, who was born in Fukui and has long aspired to exhibit in this historic garden.

Simultaneously, in Mikuni, Sakai City, a photography exhibition titled ‘The Mikuni We Leave Behind’ is showcasing 4,000 images captured by 150 local residents. Organized by Koudai Yoshida, the project utilized disposable ‘Utsurundesu’ cameras to encourage participants—ranging from teenagers to seniors—to capture unedited, authentic moments of daily life. The collection includes diverse scenes such as local festivals, coastal landscapes, and everyday domestic activities, presented in a creative display throughout a local vacant storefront.
