Fukui Prefecture Turns FamilyMart Stores into Heatstroke Prevention Hubs
As temperatures in Fukui City rise above 30 °C, local authorities are using everyday locations to warn residents about heatstroke. Large public screens display safety messages, and more than 80 % of FamilyMart convenience stores in the prefecture have been designated as cooling shelters where people can seek temporary relief from the heat. In partnership with Otsuka Pharmaceutical, FamilyMart plays a 15‑second video inside stores that explains prevention tips, and staff members who complete Otsuka‑run training are certified as heatstroke‑prevention ambassadors.
Separately, Japanese weather forecaster Kaon Kawahara posted on Instagram, urging people in the Kyushu‑Tokai corridor to stay hydrated, use high‑reflectivity sunshades, and carry cooling items such as salted ramune drinks and chilled sheets. The advice highlights that many individuals only recognize the danger after becoming ill, reinforcing the need for proactive measures across the country.
