Fukuoka adjusts school capacities amid declining student numbers

Fukuoka Prefecture is implementing changes to its educational landscape in response to a declining student population. The Fukuoka Prefectural Board of Education announced that the 2027 enrollment capacity for full-time prefectural high schools will decrease by 560 students to a total of 21,760. This reduction includes cutting one class at 14 different schools, such as Meizen, Denshukan, Fukuoka Chuo, and Kaho, to balance school scale with the projected decrease in junior high school graduates.

In a separate effort to bolster technical expertise, Fukuoka Institute of Technology and Fukuoka Municipal Hakata Technical High School have entered into a partnership agreement. The collaboration aims to cultivate advanced industrial and digital talent through joint programming, AI utilization, and shared expertise. This initiative aligns with national goals to increase science and technology students and supports the high school's participation in the Ministry of Education's DX High School project.
