Fukuoka and Niigata authorities warn of rising impersonation phone scams

Authorities in Fukuoka Prefecture are warning residents about a series of suspicious phone calls involving impersonation scams. In Asakura City and Chikuzen Town, callers posing as postal workers or police officers have contacted residents via landlines. These individuals claim that a package sent by the recipient contains illegal items, such as forged cards, passports, or cash cards, and use this pretext to attempt to extract personal information.

Similarly, in Kama City, a man claiming to be a postal worker from the Kobe Chuo Post Office contacted a resident, alleging that a package contained illegal goods that required inspection.

In Niigata Prefecture, officials in Joetsu have also issued warnings regarding similar fraudulent calls where scammers impersonate existing delivery companies to solicit personal data through automated voice guidance and operator connections.
