Fukuoka City launches digital heatstroke‑prevention pilot for construction workers

Fukuoka City announced a pilot program that uses digital technology to monitor heatstroke risk among construction workers. The trial, conducted on a city‑contracted sewer‑works site, equips three workers with helmets fitted with sensors that measure body temperature, pulse, heat‑index and personal data. When risk rises, alerts are sent to the wearer and site supervisors, enabling rapid response.

Mayor Takashima Souichiro said the project addresses the construction sector’s five‑year streak of the highest heatstroke fatalities nationwide. The city will evaluate the results before deciding on wider adoption, linking the effort to Fukuoka’s growing startup ecosystem and its push for safer, tech‑enabled workplaces.
